    • An apparatus for manufacturing a continuous slide fastener stringer chain including space portions devoid of coupling elements at longitudinal intervals. The apparatus comprises feed rollers for continuously feeding a pair of continuous stringer tapes, in synchronism with a sewing machine, to a sewing area in the sewing machine, a stationary guide member having a longitudinal channel for the passage of a pair of interengaged rows of coupling elements, and a toothed wheel projecting into the guide channel and rotatable for intermittently feeding the coupling elements in synchronism with the sewing machine to the sewing area. A cutter assembly is disposed between the sewing area and the toothed wheel for cutting off a length of coupling elements then being sewn from the interengaged rows of continuous coupling elements each time the latter stops moving.

    • A slider for a slide fastener comprises a pair of wings defining a guide channel, one of the wings having a pair of lateral edge flanges. Each flange has a corner ridge extending along its inner base and engageable with upper leg portions of the respective row of fastener elements so as to restrain the latter from being tilted in the guide channel. Each corner ridge is chamfered at its front end, whereby a leading end of the opposed rows of fastener elements, when a pair of opposed fastener stringers is threaded through the slider, is smoothly introduced into the guide channel without having being obstructed by the front ends of the corner ridges.

    • An apparatus for forming an element-free gap or space section in a pair of continuous slide fastener stringers. In the apparatus, a support table has a guide groove for receiving the pair of fastener stringers along a longitudinal path. A pair of guide plates is disposed one on each side of the guide groove and extends thereover toward each other to define with the guide groove a guide channel. A pressure pad is vertically movable around a stationary die in the support table for clamping with the guide plate a pair of tapes. A punch has a sharp cutting edge so that, as the punch is moved toward the stationary die, the cutting edge enters a relatively small clearance between adjacent tape edges to cut a chain of interengaged coupling elements only at tape-side leg portions while the pair of continuous slide fastener stringers is simply placed in and along the guide channel. An ejector is disposed beneath the punch and is upwardly movable together with the punch to pull the cut coupling elements out of stitches holding the coupling elements to the tapes while the latter are clamped between the pressure pad and the guide plates without pulling the tapes laterally apart from each other.

    • The invention provides a novel light-weight building material suitable for heat and sound insulation from an aluminum hydroxide sludge, which is a very noxious industrial waste material, and disintegrated scrapped paper as the base components. The sludge is first alkalized by the addition of sodium hydroxide to dissolve the gel-like aluminum hydroxide in the form of sodium aluminate and then admixed with the disintegrated scrapped paper to give a slurried mixture which is next neutralized to a weakly acidic condition by adding phosphoric acid whereby insoluble phosphates are deposited on the cellulosic fibers. The slurried mixture is further admixed with a coagulating agent to give a coagulated mass of the fibrous material with deposition of the phosphates. The coagulated mass is then separated from the liquid portion and dried to give a light-weight mass which is used as a blow-on insulating material for buildings or as a material for shaping an insulating board or slab.

The weft inserter includes an arm which when the weft thread is inserted is engageable with the monofilament to displace the latter out of the path of insertion of the weft thread so that the weft thread can be inserted smoothly without being frictionally engaged by the monofilament.
