    • In a rotary press, a first press roller adapted to retreat during printing and advance during plate changing to contact a web is provided on a travel route of the web between a printing unit and a dryer. A second press roller having the same function as the first press roller is provided on the travel route of the web between air infeed unit and the printing unit. A web presser for pinching the web is provided on the travel route of the web between the infeed unit and the second press roller. With the web being pinched by the web presser, the first press roller and the second press roller can be moved by the web in a retreating direction. After plate changing is completed, the press rollers can smoothly ascend regardless of their pressure, and can promptly and smoothly return to the state before plate changing.

    • The present invention provides a method and system for producing books on-demand. An electronic bookstore in accordance with the subject invention can receive an electronic text file of a book and then print and bind a copy of the book. A user may browse an electronic catalog, for example over the Internet, and place an order for a book which can be picked up at a conveniently located electronic bookstore shortly after placing the order. The subject invention reduces costs and waste associated with conventional production and distribution of print matter. Advantageously, the subject invention allows books with smaller audiences to be published at a reasonable price. An electronic bookstore in accordance with the subject invention can have access to literally millions of books and can print and bind any selected book in a few minutes.

    • A paper-web holding apparatus is provided in a rotary printing press having rollers which form a path for a paper web fed from a paper web feeding unit to travel along to a folding unit via a press unit and around which the paper web is wrapped. The paper-web holding apparatus includes a rotation restraint mechanism provided for at least one selected roller, and a propeller roller mechanism provided for the selected roller. The rotation restraint mechanism restrain rotation of the roller when the rotary printing press is halted, and allows rotation of the roller when the rotary printing press is operated. The propeller roller mechanism has a pressing member which is advanced toward the roller in order to apply pressing force to the roller at least when the rotary printing press is in a halt state.
