    • A novel addressing technique, aimed at reduced addressing time of a PDP panel is disclosed in the present invention. The invention uses new scanning voltage waveform, new voltage waveforms for bulk sustain and data electrodes, as well as discharges in all the pixels (both ON and OFF), which allows to significantly lower the voltage controlled by address drivers. Although elements of this technique can be used in any panel and in conjunction with many other methods of shortening the address period, the effectiveness of this technique depends on the geometrical parameters of a PDP cell.

    • A method is provided for driving a plasma display panel having parallel first and second electrodes, third electrodes crossing the first and second electrodes, and discharge cells with electrodes crossing mutually in the form of a matrix. The method includes a reset period during which distribution of wall charges in the discharge cells is uniformed, an addressing period during which wall charges are produced in the discharge cells according to display data, and a sustain discharge period during which sustain discharge is induced in discharge cells in which wall charges are produced during the addressing period. The driving method includes during the reset period, in lines defined by the first and second electrodes, applying a first pulse, in which an applied voltage varies with time to induce first discharge, and applying a second pulse in which an applied voltage varies with time to induce second discharge as an erase discharge.

    • A plasma display apparatus causes a stable address discharge while suppressing unnecessary radiation, e.g. line radiation and housing radiation. For this purpose, the plasma display apparatus includes an image signal processing circuit, a data electrode driver circuit, and a timing generation circuit. The data electrode driver circuit generates an address pulse based on the image data at the timing in synchronization with an address timing signal from the timing generation circuit. The data electrode driver circuit has a delay part for delaying the address timing signal, calculates the load capacitance of each data electrode based on the image data. Further, based on the load capacitance calculated for each data electrode, the data electrode driver circuit generates an address pulse at the timing in synchronization with either the address timing signal before the delay in the delay part or an address timing signal delayed by the delay part.
