    • A gas fire space heater which can be an insert for an existing fireplace or a free standing unit is described. The device consists of a gas burner with radiants disposed within a housing. The products of combustion are collected in a first plenum, directed through a concertina heat exchanger into a second plenum, and from the second plenum up a flue. Air to be heated is collected by a blower and circulated countercurrently to the products of combustion through the heat exchanger, around the housing, and into the space to be heated. Air to be heated is supplied to the blower from an outside vent, and an inside vent. The outside vent is controlled by a one-way suction damper and the inside vent is controlled by a manual damper. The two vents form a T at the fan inlet and control of the manual damper then controls the amount outside and inside air supplied to the blower. A thermostatic control is provided in the flue to ensure that the blower is shut off if the flue temperature drops below a predetermined temperature whereby the flue may no longer draw. The preferred blower capacity is 200 cubic feet per minute, and the concertina heat exchanger is about three and one half inches by sixteen inches by sixteen inches.

    • A space heater for small rooms, e.g. house trailers or ship's cabins, comprises an undulating heat exchanger centered on a vertical axis and a combustion pipe surrounded thereby. A burner enters the lower end of the combination pipe whose upper end is closed except for a number of lateral openings communicating with outwardly closed smoke channels of the undulating heat exchanger which alternate with outwardly open air channels. An outer peripheral wall, spacedly surrounding the heat exchanger, forms with its air channels an annular conduit for the conveyance of ambient air entering that conduit near its bottom and leaving it at its top.

    • A warm air blowing heater includes combustion equipment for burning fuel, and an air duct provided at a position away from a portion directly above the combustion equipment for blowing air from the heater into the room. The combustion equipment includes a burner chimney provided above a burner, and a reflecting plate is provided behind this burner chimney. The radiation heat of the combustion equipment is radiated directly and is also reflected on the reflecting plate to heat the room. The air duct does not disturb the rise of the combustion exhaust gas of the combustion equipment to form a smooth rising exhaust gas stream. When the air is blown from the air duct toward the front of the heater, the high temperature air in the upper portion of the heater is sucked. This high temperature air is mixed with the air blown from the air duct to allow the heater to blow warm air into the room. The blower motor may suck the air in the room and supply it to the air duct. When the blower motor, however, sucks the outdoor air and blows it from the air duct into the room, the air in the room can be simultaneously exchanged for good circulation.

    • There is disclosed a furnace which is particularly suitable for domestic use, having means to generate infra-red radiation in a sealed combustion chamber to thereby rapidly heat the same and in turn impart that heat to air ciculated therearound, and ultimately directed to the area to be heated, the combustion arrangement including a fibrous pervious burner member to and through which an air/gas mixture under pressure is directed and caused to burn over the surface thereof to effect the infra-red heat generation, the same effecting greatly improved heating efficiency, reduction in air pollution and a decreased demand for fuel to provide for heating of given area.

    • An infrared heater includes a combustion chamber having a radiator with a surface arranged to direct radiant heat in a forward heating direction. A fan has an outlet opening which is located to direct a flow of air above the radiating surface, thereby deflecting convective air heated by the combustion chamber in the forward direction. The fan is mounted above and on the rear side of the chamber so that it is out of the influence of radiant and convective heat developed by the chamber. A motor which drives the fan is mounted at one end of the fan so that the motor is also not affected by the radiant and convective heat.
