    • A casing defines a cavity that extends along an axis and that has a top, a bottom and axially front and rear ends. The casing is configured to conduct a liquid along a flow path through the cavity from the front end to the rear end. A holding structure in the cavity defines a media chamber that can be filled with media for treating the liquid. The holding structure has a top passageway through which the liquid can flow downwardly into the media chamber and a rear passageway through which the liquid can flow rearwardly out of the media chamber. Blocking structures in the cavity constrain the flow path to extend through the top passageway into the media chamber and through the rear passageway out of the media chamber.

    • A coupler (A) defines a bell (C) having a cylindrical wall (40) of substantially the same inner diameter as an outer diameter of peaks (22) of a length of corrugated tubing (B). The corrugated tubing includes a gasket (30) received in a valley (24) near one end thereof. The gasket includes a flange portion (32) which is compressed into the valley by the side wall (40) as the end of the tubing is slid into the coupler (A). The coupler includes an annular groove (44) which is in alignment with the gasket when the inner end of the tubing engages a stop (10). The flange is resiliently biased outward into groove (44) where an outward facing groove engaging surface (46) of the gasket engages an inward facing gasket engaging surface (48) of the groove. The gasket may include a stiffer higher durometer rubber portion (52) for biasing the flange more stiffly into the groove and to transfer axial load to the bell more stiffly.

    • A coupler structure which facilitates the internal joining of a first length of hollow plastic pipe having internal corrugations defined by a plurality of alternating peaks and valleys to a second length of similar pipe or to some other structure. The coupler is molded from plastic to have at least one cylindrical end portion dimensioned for longitudinal receipt in the second length of tubing or other structure which is to be coupled to the first length. This one end portion includes a plurality of integrally molded cleats extending generally radially outward thereof. The cleats are selectively movable between first locking positions for lockingly engaging the second tubing length valleys and second non-locking positions which permits forced insertion of the coupler one end portion into the second tubing length. The cleats are hinged to the one end portion generally laterally thereof and are continuously urged toward the first position by the resilient nature of the plastic construction. A tab or tongue-like structure extends outwardly from each cleat generally longitudinal of the coupler one end and is dimensioned to extend beneath the next adjacent second tubing peak when the cleat is in locking engagement with a second tubing length valley. This, in turn, acts to energize the cleat to enhance its locking capabilities when a pull force is applied to the tubing. The coupler preferably comprises a separate structure including a pair of generally opposed end portions for joining two similar lengths of plastic pipe. The coupler also preferably includes flexure means intermediate the end portions to accommodate bending at the tubing joint.

    • A plow assembly and method useful for burying an elongated flexible member at a predetermined depth beneath ground level. The arrangement utilizes a frame assembly adapted to be pulled by a tractor type vehicle and which frame assembly has a vertically-extending plow support unit. A dynamic plow unit is mounted at the lower end of the plow support unit and includes a generally horizontal base. The forward end of the plow unit includes a plow nose portion having an inclined top surface. The top of the plow unit is defined by a plate member having an upper surface which extends rearwardly from the nose generally parallel to the base. The plate member is mounted about a transverse axis closely adjacent the nose portion for pivotal oscillating movement by hydraulic cylinder means. Such oscillation is between a first position generally parallel to the plow unit base and a second position spaced angularly upward therefrom. Plate member oscillation generally ranges from 20 to 120 cycles per minute with the upward portion of each oscillation being slower than the downward or return portion. The plow nose portion may include a vibrator or a lubricant release for reducing sliding friction. For operating at increased depths a pair of in line, cooperating frame assemblies which are horizontally and vertically spaced apart from each other may be employed.

    • An alternator valve assembly particularly suited for below ground level use in septic systems for diverting flow from a single inlet to either of two separate outlets. The valve is comprised of a plastic housing which defines a valve chamber having an inlet, a pair of outlets, and valve plug seat means located in the housing adjacent each outlet. A rubber valve plug is adapted to be received in the valve chamber in one of the outlets to selectively block flow therethrough. The plug includes a sealing lip cooperable with the valve seat of the associated outlet and includes an elongated handle protruding outwardly of the valve housing to facilitate movement of the plug between blocking positions with each of the outlets. An outlet box defining a hollow outlet box chamber and having an exit area may be disposed in operative communication with each of the valve housing outlets. An elongated tube-like member extends upwardly from the valve chamber housing to ground level and the elongated handle for the valve plug extends upwardly through the tube-like member to substantially ground level. A cap or cover is closely received in or over the tube-like member at ground level. The elongated handle is longitudinally dimensioned to cooperate with the inner face of the cap or cover to prevent undesired dislodgement of the valve plug from blocking engagement with one of the valve chamber outlets due to system back pressures or the like.

    • A modular assembly for constructing conduits of the type used for underground telephone lines, electrical lines, and the like. The specification discloses several embodiments each of which generally comprises a plurality of side-by-side corrugated plastic tubing sections. These sections are provided with laterally extending means which engage to prevent relative longitudinal movement between adjacent sections. Preferably, longitudinally spaced and circumferentially extending wrapping or binding members encircle the assembled section to prevent relative movement between the sections in the lateral direction. The specification and drawings also disclose several forms of joints for connecting aligned assemblies. In the preferred form, the joints include resilient foam members having spaced openings for receiving the aligned ends of the tubes in successive sections. Additionally, clamp means are provided for drawing the sections together to compress the foam members.

A method of manufacturing a corrugated pipe (2) includes manufacturing a first, a second, and a third corrugated pipe (80, 90, 100) with each pipe having an inner diameter ID and an outer diameter OD. The inner diameter ID is chosen such taht the first pipe (80) can be telescopically inserted into the second pipe (90) and the second pipe (90) can be telescopically inserted into the third pipe (100). A method of shipping a plurality of different diameter pipes is also provided.
