    • A recoil starter has a starter case provided around a starter shaft. A one-way clutch mechanism is formed between one end of the starter shaft and an engine. A reel is mounted rotatably on the starter shaft and a rope is wound in a groove of the reel. A first spiral spring has its ends fixed respectively to the starter case and reel and urges the reel in the direction in which the rope is taken up. A second spiral spring has its ends fixed respectively to the reel and transmits a rotational force of the reel to the starter shaft when the rope is drawn out. The peak load at the engine starting time is absorbed in the second spiral spring.

    • According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a recoil starter including: a case; a reel pivot formed on the case; a rope reel rotatably supported on the reel pivot; a recoil spring; a cam; a power storage spring interposed between the rope reel and the cam; and a power storage ratchet mechanism disposed between facing surfaces of the rope reel and the cam and. The power storage ratchet mechanism is configured to disengage the rope reel and the cam when the rope reel rotates in an engine-starting direction, and engage the rope reel and the cam when the rope reel rotates in an opposite direction to the engine-starting direction.

    • One embodiment provides a recoil starter for starting an engine. The recoil starter includes: a starter case having a storage portion; a rope reel rotatably accommodated in the storage portion, a recoil rope being wound on the rope reel; a recoil spring interposed between the rope reel and the starter case within the storage portion; a cam portion rotatable concentrically with the rope reel and engageable with the engine; and a dust cover provided on an opening of the storage portion to cover the rope reel. The rope reel has concentric circular uneven portions formed on a surface thereof facing the engine, and the dust cover also has concentric circular uneven portions. Therefore, the circular uneven portions of the rope reel and the circular uneven portions of the dust cover fit with each other to provide a nest structure.

A recoil starter is provided with a circular cross section ratchet member rotatably mounted on a shaft hole. The ratchet member is configured by: a rotary shaft portion inserted into the shaft hole; an arm portion bent at a substantially right angle and extending from the rotary shaft portion; and a distal end portion bent parallel to the rotary shaft portion and extending from the arm portion. The ratchet member rotates upon rotation of a rope reel in an engine start direction, engages with a drive pulley by the rotation, and transmits torque of the rope reel to the drive pulley.

    • According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a recoil starter including: a case having a reel supporting shaft; a rope reel having: a tubular shaft portion; an engaging portion; a rope housing groove to house a recoil rope; and a spring housing portion to house a spiral spring; a ratchet axially-slidably arranged outside the tubular shaft portion; a ratchet guide attached to an end of the reel supporting shaft; and a return spring provided between the ratchet guide and the ratchet, wherein an inclined surface and a locking surface are formed on the engaging portion to be engageable with the ratchet, and wherein the inclined surface guides the ratchet toward to be engaged with the driving pulley, thereby rotating the driving pulley and starting the engine, when the rope reel is rotated.
