摘要： A guidewire system for use in catheter exchanges avoids the need for a separate exchange wire by connecting an extension wire to the proximal end of the guidewire thereby increasing the effective length of the guidewire to permit a catheter exchange. The proximal end of the guidewire is attached to the distal end of the exchange wire by a disconnectable reattachable connection which avoids deformation of the connected joint.

摘要： An inflatable manipulator for organ manipulation during surgery is disclosed. The system typically includes an inflatable balloon connected to an infusion source where the balloon is either coupled to a relatively rigid platform or fitted with a positioning structure such as a pocket. In open heart surgery, the platform is used to position and stabilize the balloon under the heart. In minimally invasive surgery, the balloon fitted with the pocket and can be rolled into a narrow configuration and inserted through a small incision using an insertion device. The insertion device can then be removed once the manipulator is in position. In use, the balloon of the manipulator is inflated by the infusion source thereby elevating and tilting the organ to the desired position for surgical access. Systems including multiple chamber manipulators each with a separate infusion source are also disclosed, as are combined methods for cooling organs during surgery and for using the manipulators to separate adhesions.

摘要： This invention is a surgical instrument and specifically is a device for delivering embolic coils to a selected site within the vasculature of a human body via use of a catheter. The invention further includes the coils. In particular, the device uses embolic coils having interlocking ends, e.g., clasps or hooks, on the ends of the coils. The carrier tube can have an outer surface retaining a closure element in a tubular configuration and can be split into radially-expandable flaps. A closure element can have a shape-memory body having a relaxed configuration with a planar-annular body defining a lumen with tines directed inwardly from the body. The clip can be held in a retaining configuration having a substantially asymmetrically-elongated tubular shape with a trapezoidal longitudinal cross-sectional profile and a proximal end having the tines being longitudinally directed with a first tine being more distally oriented compared to a substantially opposite second tine being more proximal, and retracting to a deploying configuration having a tubular shape with a rectangular longitudinal cross-sectional profile with the first tine being even with the second tine when being delivered.
