摘要： The present invention is directed to an electrodepositable composition of a resinous phase dispersed in an aqueous medium. The resinous phase includes an ionic polyester polymer prepared from a) an aromatic and/or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid compound having at least two aromatic and/or secondary aliphatic carboxyl groups, b) a branched aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic compound containing at least two aliphatic hydroxyl groups, the aliphatic hydroxyl groups being either secondary or tertiary hydroxyl groups or primary hydroxyl groups attached to a carbon adjacent to a tertiary or quaternary carbon, c) a compound including an ionic salt group or a group which is converted to an ionic salt group, and d) optionally, at least one hydroxyl substituted carboxylic compound comprising at least one tertiary aliphatic carboxyl group and at least two aliphatic hydroxyl groups. The present invention also includes a method for electrocoating a conductive substrate with the described electrodepositable composition. Lastly, the present invention is directed to a conductive substrate coated according to the described method.

摘要： An electrodepositable composition is provided comprising (a) an active hydrogen-containing, cationic salt group-containing resin electrodepositable on a cathode; (b) a capped polyisocyanate curing agent; and (c) a diorganotin dicarboxylate; wherein the dicarboxylate is at least one long chain carboxylate having from 14 to 22 carbon atoms and the diorganotin dicarboxylate is present in the electrodepositable composition in an amount of at least 0.01 percent by weight tin based on weight of total solids of the electrodepositable composition. The composition provides improved storage stability without precipitation of dibutyltin oxide, and when electrodeposited over conductive substrates, there is no loss of cure response and appearance properties.

摘要： An improved electrodepositable composition is provided comprising: (a) an active hydrogen-containing cationic resin electrodepositable on a cathode; (b) a capped polyisocyanate curing agent; and (c) an organotin-containing catalyst. The improvement comprises the addition to the electrodepositable composition of a water immiscible acid functional compound having a hydrocarbon chain of at least 5 carbon atoms like abietic acid and natural sources thereof. A preferred acid functional compound is abietic acid. The composition provides improved cure response and appearance properties when electrodeposited over conductive substrates.

摘要： The present invention relates to an electrodepositable coating composition having a resinous phase dispersed in an aqueous medium. The resinous phase includes (a) an ungelled, active hydrogen-containing, ionic salt group-containing resin; and (b) a curing agent reactive with the active hydrogens of the resin (a). The resinous phase has a covalently bonded halogen content based on total weight of resin solids present in the resinous phase such that when the composition is electrodeposited and cured, the cured film passes flame resistance testing in accordance with IPC-TM-650, and has a dielectric constant of less than or equal to 3.50. The invention also is directed to a method for forming a dielectric coating on an electroconductive substrate using the electrodepositable coating composition, as well as to a substrate coated with the electrodepositable composition.

摘要： An anionic electrocoating composition is provided including an electrodepositable .beta.-hydroxyalkylamide curing agent and an electrodepositable polymer capable of crosslinking with the curing agent. This curing agent includes an organic radical that (a) contains from 8 to 60 carbon atoms; (b) is derived from a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical; and (c) is bonded to n .beta.-hydroxyalkylamide groups, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 4, to form ##STR1## where R.sup.1 can be H or a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic group containing up to 6 carbon atoms; where R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 can be the same or different and can be H or a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic group containing up to 36 carbon atoms; where R.sup.4 can be H or a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic group containing up to 8 carbon atoms when n is an integer form 2 to 4, and a .beta.-hydroxy substituted aliphatic group containing up to 6 carbon atoms when n is 1; where A is the organic radical; where x is the valency of the organic radical and an integer greater than or equal to n; and where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and A, either individually or combined, have a carbon chain length, or substituted groups, or both, such that the resulting curing agent has a lipophilic nature enabling it to associate with the organic phase of the electrocoating composition and deposits onto a conductive during an anionic electrocoating process.
