摘要： A perforated sheet for the promotion of film cooling a gas turbine engine comprises two separate layers of laminate material which are placed in superposed abutting relationship. The first layer has a plurality of apertures of given cross-sectional area therein. The second layer also has a plurality of apertures therein which have larger cross-sectional areas than the corresponding apertures in the first layer. The apertures in the first layer are in fluid communication with the apertures in the second layer to form passageways through the perforated sheet. These passageways permit a cooling flow of fluid to pass through the perforated sheet so it can be discharged as a cooling fluid film along the inner surface of the perforated sheet. The apertures in each layer are independently formed to produce the passageways. The apertures can easily be machined to the desired size, shape, and angle to optimize the cooling film effectiveness for any particular application.

摘要： An applicator unit is moved through a field of growing vegetation, for instance as an implement mounted across the front of a farm tractor. The unit includes a horizontal, laterally extending outlet manifold ranked above a similarly arranged inlet manifold. Between each manifold a plurality of forwardly convex knee-like rod members are mounted. In use, a treatment liquid to be directly applied to vegetation is arranged to run out of the outlet manifold in a superficial sheet along the surface of each rod. As vegetation is grazed by the rods, some of the treatment liquid is wiped onto the vegetation. Any treatment liquid which is not thus wiped onto vegetation is collected from the lower ends of the rods into the inlet manifold and pumped back up to a reservoir from which it flows to the outlet manifold. By preference each knee-like rod is disposed at an incline as seen in front elevation in order to decrease the chance that a tall thin plant can pass untreated between two adjacent rods. A valving system is provided to prevent air entry on inlet side of the pump.

摘要： An applicator is mounted to a transverse boom carried by a tractor and moved through a field at such a height as to directly contact target vegetation above a selected level, and avoid application of treating liquid to any shorter, desirable vegetation. The applicator includes an outlet manifold, a plurality of receivers connected to an inlet manifold, a respective plurality of generally vertically oriented, transversally spaced non-porous applicator rods each extending between the outlet manifold and a respective receiver, an elevated reservoir for treating liquid, and a pump for recirculating back to the reservoir excess treating liquid which has flowed down outsides of the rods and into the receivers without having been brushed-off onto vegetation contacted by the rods. The outlet manifold and receivers are provided with filters, and each receiver is provided with a trash shield, all for preventing clogging and for facilitating clean-out of the treating liquid flow path. Each applicator rod at its upper end is grooved in a way that facilitates spreading of the treating liquid on the rod while minimizing spillage.

The apparatus comprises a central core which is provided with two fuel supply ducts. The first fuel supply duct supplies fuel for atomization in a swirling airstream; the atomized fuel being subsequently thoroughly mixed with air in an axially elongate mixing duct. The second fuel supply duct supplies fuel to the downstream end of the core where the fuel is atomized by an air flow through a duct surrounding the core before being exhausted from the core downstream end.

摘要： A gas turbine engine fuel injection apparatus comprises a fuel spray atomizer which directs a fuel spray onto the radially inner surface of an annular flow deflector. The fuel flows in a film over the flow deflector surface towards an annular lip at the downstream end of the deflector. Swirling air flows are directed over the radially inner and outer surfaces of the flow deflector so as to atomize the fuel as it leaves the annular lip. The fuel is evaporated in the swirling airflows and thoroughtly mixed with the airflows in a mixing duct before being discharged into a combustion chamber. The thorough mixing of the evaporated fuel and the airflows prior to combustion results in the production of reduced quantities of the oxide of nitrogen.

摘要： A multi-stream fuel injector for a gas turbine engine comprises a plurality of concentric member which define a plurality of flow passages carrying HP compressor air or fuel/air mixture. One of the members is formed with a wide-angle, frusto-conical flared lip to propagate a wide-angle fuel/air mixture cone in the combustion region. The lip is of such a cross-sectional configuration that air flowing over the lip surface remains attached to the surface and flows in a non-turbulent manner, initially in a radially inward direction, and subsequently in a radially outward direction. The lip ensures that undesirable regions of recirculation are avoided around the fuel injector.
