    • Among other things, the present invention provides a system and method for improved infusion of a fiber containing preform with a resin. The system comprises a mould base portion adapted to support the preform and a mould closure portion adapted to overlie the mould base portion in sealable relation to define a mould chamber containing the preform. One or more sensors are attached to the mould base portion and/or to the mould closure portion for monitoring flow characteristics of the resin within the mould chamber. A control means responsive to the sensing means is operatively connected to a resin pump and to a vacuum pump for varying the flow of resin within the mould chamber by varying either or both of the volumetric flow rate of the resin and the level of vacuum within the mould chamber to control infusion of the preform.

    • A pencil sharpener including housing, a rotary seat disposed in the housing, and a driver for rotationally driving the rotary seat. A blade unit includes two rotary blades that are disposed on the rotary seat and converge to define a sharpening angle. The sharpener also includes cooperating gears that rotate each blade about its associated longitudinal axis, and rotate the blades about a central axis therebetween. One of the rotary blades has a reduced diameter section, and the rotary seat has a projecting stop that corresponds to the reduced diameter section. The stop is positioned in a cavity of the rotary seat for the tip of a pencil to abut against so as to locate the pencil.

    • An automatic-cutoff electric iron employs two timing cycles for turning off power to the electric iron upon the absence of motion for two different discrete time periods. A motion sensor includes an angle sensor to enable a short timing cycle for cutting off power to the electric iron after the electric iron is motionless with its sole plate in a horizontal orientation. The longer timing cycle is enabled when the electric iron is motionless with its sole plate tilted from the horizontal. The cutoff function is performed by a wedge-shaped actuator driven by a solenoid which releases a spring-urged shaft along with one of the electrical contacts feeding power to the electric iron. The power is turned on by mechanical actuation of the shaft whereby a latch member is engaged behind a cam boss. A manual cutoff is also disclosed.
