    • An image processing apparatus is provided, including division means for dividing input image data into a plurality of areas. Enlargement/reduction means are provided for enlarging/reducing image data. First calculation means calculate a first image size as a sum of results from enlargement/reduction at first to i-th areas enlarged/reduced by the enlargement/reduction means at a designated enlargement/reduction ratio. Second calculation means calculate a second image size as a result from the enlargement/reduction at an image comprising the first to i-th areas at the designated enlargement/reduction ratio. Determination means determine an enlargement/reduction ratio of enlargement/reduction to be performed on the image comprising the first to i-th areas, based on the first image size and the second image size.

    • This invention is directed to an image processing apparatus and method capable of creating image data at light processing load by executing cropping from an image and connection of a plurality of images, and storing medium for storing a program executing the method. According to this method, image data containing the difference between encoded data of two consecutive blocks corresponding to an image divided into a plurality of blocks is input. When cropping or connection of an image based on the image data is instructed, the difference between encoded data of two blocks which newly become consecutive in an image newly acquired by cropping or connection of the image is calculated based on encoded data contained in the image data. Image data which corresponds to the newly acquired image and contains the calculated difference as encoded data corresponding to a block of the newly acquired image is created.

    • When an image read start command is received from a PC, an image reading unit first sequentially reads an image of an original. An output signal of the image reading unit is processed by an analog signal processing circuit, an A/D converter, and an image processing circuit and is supplied to a transfer control circuit. When an instruction from the PC indicates a direct transfer mode, the transfer control circuit outputs the image data from the image processing circuit as it is to an interface. When the instruction from the PC indicates a temporary storage mode, the transfer control unit temporarily stores the image data into a storage medium of an auxiliary storage device. When there is a reading request from the PC, the transfer control circuit reads out the image data which is stored into the auxiliary storage device and transfers it to the PC through the interface.
