    • A method for selecting a new cell for a station in a cellular telecommunications system, the station being associated with a current cell is provided. The method comprises the steps of measuring at the station the strength of a communication from the current cell, measuring at the station the strength of a communication from at least one other cell, modifying the result of the measuring step in which the strength of the communication from at least one other cell and/or the current cell is measured to take into account a condition of the current and/or said at least one other cell if the measured strength of the communication from the current cell and/or the measured strength of the communication from the at least one other cell satisfy a predetermined condition, if the modifying step is performed, comparing the measured strength of the communication from the current cell and the measured strength of the communication from the at least one other cell at least one of the measured strengths being modified in the modifying step and depending on the results of the comparison changing the current cell with which the station is associated.

    • A solution for signal detection in a radio receiver receiving multicarrier signals is disclosed. According to the provided solution, the radio receiver receives a radio signal and converts the received radio signal into digital samples. Since a desired signal being detected occupies only a portion of subcarriers of a signal the radio receiver is configured to receive, the received signal is heavily oversampled. A detection procedure may be simplified by utilizing this oversampling. A relation between the known total bandwidth of the desired signal and the total bandwidth of the received radio signal may be calculated, and utilized in the actual signal detection. The signal detection is based on sliding correlation in which the samples of the received signal are correlated with a reference signal with different phase shifts between the two signals. As the result of the correlation, the received signal is determined to be either the desired signal or noise.

    • A semi-single frequency network (SFN) concept is presented. According to the SFN concept, the same data signal is transmitted from multiple base stations to a mobile terminal simultaneously on the same frequency band. Accordingly, the transmitted signals are combined in the radio channel and the mobile terminal experiences the transmitted signals as one signal propagated through a multipath channel. Additionally, each base station transmits a base station specific pilot signal. The mobile terminal carries out a channel estimation procedure for each received pilot signal and combines the channel estimates to obtain information how to equalize the received data signal. Then, the mobile terminal calculates equalization weights from the combined channel estimates and equalizes the received data signal.
