    • A navigation system utilizes building directories to aid navigation. A mobile device, such as a mobile phone, captures an image of a building directory. The building directory includes information regarding the names and/or locations of tenants. An image recognition algorithm is performed on the captured image to extract information from the building directory. The extracted information is used to access a map database. The mobile device may display directions or a map to guide the user to a selected destination. In addition, the captured image may be used to build the map database or update the map database. Finally, the captured image may be matched with stored images of the building directory to determine the current location of the mobile device.

    • A method and system for efficiently storing, retrieving, and updating binary large objects (BLOBs) in embedded systems is disclosed. The metadata of the BLOBs is stored in relational tables, while the BLOBs are stored in a flat file. Querying the metadata of the BLOBs (i.e. the starting points of the BLOBs and their length) is performed based on SQL. The corresponding BLOBs are then accessed using file operation commands. To further simplify the querying and storage of BLOBs, virtual tables are created. By using these virtual tables, a user can access a BLOB as if it was stored in a physical table.

    • Disclosed are a system and method for identifying objects in an image dataset that occlude other objects and for transforming the image dataset to reveal the occluded objects. In some cases, occluding objects are identified by processing the image dataset to determine the relative positions of visual objects. Occluded objects are then revealed by removing the occluding objects from the image dataset or by otherwise de-emphasizing the occluding objects so that the occluded objects are seen behind it. A visual object may be removed simply because it occludes another object, because of privacy concerns, or because it is transient. When an object is removed or de-emphasized, the objects that were behind it may need to be “cleaned up” so that they show up well. To do this, information from multiple images can be processed using interpolation techniques. The image dataset can be further transformed by adding objects to the images.
