    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for inspecting the hold of an LNG carrier are provided to improve safety by controlling the pressure of insulation spaces of an uncontaminated tank. CONSTITUTION: A method for inspecting the hold of an LNG carrier is as follows. Liquefied Natural Gas, loaded on a hold required for inspection, is transferred to the other hold. The inside the hold is heated using methane gas to increase the temperature of the hold. The concentration of the methane gas is lowered under 2% by blowing inert gas into the inside the hold. The concentration of oxygen is controlled to about 20% by replacing the inert gas by air. Insulation spaces(2,3) are cleaned by repeating vacuum and nitrogen gas filling works two or more times.

The ultraviolet ray lamp is connected to an external power supply. The protective net is separated from the outer surface of the ultraviolet ray lamp.

The diameter of oil is increased gradually by contacting oil component to oil and water separation walls(5) arranged zigzag, and oil is floated on the water by gravity. Oil is removed from the sea water in the oil and water separation chamber, and the sea water is gathered in a treatment water waiting chamber(6) and discharged to a hole(2). Oil floating on the oil and water separation chamber is collected in a waste oil storage chamber(7) and streamed to a waste oil storage tank through a discharge port.
