    • A method for classifying packets in a mobile communication system is provided to process IPv4/IPv6 traffic through one connection without an unnecessary waste of air resources in the case of a terminal using IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time by providing an effective packet classification method to provide an IPv4/IPv6 service through one shared air resource. An IPv4/IPv6 dual stack terminal accesses a network, and executes procedures for ranging, basic capability negotiation, authentication and registration. Then the terminal receives a DSA-REQ(Dynamic Service Addition Request) message for connection setup from a base station(401). Receiving the DSA-REQ message, the terminal stores connection-associated information, such as an SFID(Service Flow ID), a CID(Connection ID), a QoS(Quality of Service) parameter, etc., contained in the received message(403). Then the terminal confirms the CS(Convergence Sublayer) specification value contained in the DSA-REQ message(405). If the CS specification value is a value that indicates a connection supporting only IPv4, the terminal parses the IPv4 CS rule contained in the DSA-REQ message and stores the parsed IPv4 CS rule in an IPv4 CS pool(407,409). If the CS specification value is a value that indicates a connection supporting only IPv6, the terminal parses the IPv6 CS rule contained in the DSA-REQ message and stores the parsed IPv6 CS rule in an IPv6 CS pool(411,413). In case the CS specification value is a value that indicates a connection supporting both IPv4 and IPv6, the terminal parses both the IPv4 CS rule and the IPv6 CS rule and stores the parsed IPv4 and IPv6 CS rules respectively in the IPv4 CS pool and the IPv6 CS pool(415,417).

    • A method for constructing tunnel forwarding information in line cards of an IPv6 router is provided to offer an IPv6 packet tunneling function to rapidly convert IPv6 packets into IPv4 packets by receiving a forwarding information message having a tunnel interface, judging whether the received forwarding information message indicates a forwarding information addition request or a forwarding information deletion request, and adding or deleting tunnel information, IPv6 prefix information, and forwarding information respectively for a tunnel table, an IPv6 prefix table, and an IPv6 forwarding table. A line card in an IPv6 router receives a forwarding information message having a tunnel interface(601), and judges whether the received forwarding information message indicates an addition request or a deletion request for associated forwarding information(602). In case it is confirmed that the forwarding information message indicates a forwarding information addition request, the line card confirms whether tunnel information exists(603). If so, the line card increases the channel reference count by 1 and adds associated IPv6 prefix information and forwarding information respectively to an IPv6 prefix table and an IPv6 forwarding table(604,605). In case tunnel information doesn't exist, however, the line card adds associated tunnel information to a tunnel table(606). Then the line card adds associated IPv6 prefix information and forwarding information respectively to the IPv6 prefix table and the IPv6 forwarding table(605).
