    • PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing methylated melamine with high production rate and purity. The process carries out methoxylation reaction in neutral condition so that the amount of acid used therefor is decreased and the generation of salts and ions is remarkably decreased. CONSTITUTION: The preparation method comprises the steps of: mixing 1 mole of melamine, 3-30 moles of formaldehyde, 10-70 moles of methanol and 0.0001-0.1 mole of metal salt catalyst and performing reaction of the mixture under neutral condition of pH 6.5-7.5; methoxylating the reactant using acid catalyst at pH 3-5; neutralizing the reactant with sodium hydroxide and separating it by thin layer evaporation at 100-150deg.C, under the pressure of not more than 100torr with 200-300rpm and 0.1-1.0 liter/hour flow rate; and eliminating remaining salts and ions in the reactant by adding 0.1-10wt.% of magnesium silicate. At least one of metal salt catalyst is selected from the group consisting of NaCO2CH3, KaCO2CH3, Pb(CO2CH3)2, Mg(CO2CH3)2 and NaOCH3 while one or more acid catalysts are chosen from the group consisting of HCOOH, HCO2CH3, HCl, HNO3, H2SO4 and H3PO4.
