    • A crankshaft miller performs cutting work by means of a cutter mounted on a rotary cutter drum, for a work which both ends are gripped by chucks, and clamps a portion in the vicinity of a processed portion of the work by a rest arm to be opened and closed. An arrangement for preventing chip from flying around includes a chip flying around preventing cover which is designed for preventing chip from flying around upon stopping of the rotary cuter drum. The chip flying around preventing cover includes a main cover positioned in the vicinity of the rotary cutter drum and having an opening with a diameter sufficiently larger than an external diameter of the chuck when a rotary cutter drum is positioned at a stand-by position; and an auxiliary cover mounted on an opening portion of the main cover and having an opening with a diameter slightly larger than the external diameter of the chuck.

    • PURPOSE: This machining method is provided to machine all the pins and journals of the work by one crank shaft miller CONSTITUTION: In a method of machining a crank shaft in which a journal (3a) and a pin (3b) of a work (3) are cut in a plurality of steps by a rotating cutter (5e)while both ends of the work (3) are clamped by chucks (4); the work is phase positioned by a phase pawl (4c) disposed on one of the chucks; both ends of the works are clamped by both chucks; the journal and pin of the work are machined by the cutter in a plurality of steps; after cutting of all the journals and pins other than the first journal (J1) existing at the place where the phase pawl and the cutter interfere with each other, the chuck having the phase pawl is brought into an unclamped state and is moved back to the position at which the phase pawl does not interfere with the cutter; both ends of the work are again clamped by both chucks at this position; and the first journal is then cut by using the cutter.
