    • PURPOSE: A medium access control layer architecture system which supports an enhanced uplink is provided to establish a MAC(Medium Access Control) entity for a new enhanced uplink(EU) which is called as a MAC-e(entity), thereby merging the MAC entity for the new EU with a WTRU(Wireless Transmit/Receive Unit), a node B, and an RNC(Radio Network Controller). CONSTITUTION: A medium access control-entity(120) of a WTRU(Wireless Transmit/Receive Unit) receives data to be transmitted through an enhanced dedicated channel from an RLC(Radio Link Control) layer(140) of the WTRU(502). An enhanced uplink(EU) rate request entity(122) sends a rate request to a node B(200,504). The node B sends a rate grant to the EU rate request entity(506). The EU rate request entity notifies a radio resource which is used in a data transmission process to a priority processing entity(508). The priority processing entity(124) performs a data multiplexing process according to data priorities. The priority processing entity allocates an H-ARQ(Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request) process. A TFC(Transport Format Combination) selection entity selects TFC with respect to data(512).

    • A method and an apparatus for improving configuration of serving grants for a user equipment in a wireless communication system are provided to prevent a software error by performing a serving grant update process when a grant message is received. A method for improving configuration of serving grants for a user equipment in a wireless communication system includes the steps of: providing a scheduling grant table, setting a serving grant based on a reference value determined by an absolute grant message when the grant message is received(302); and before setting the serving grant, setting a maximum scheduling grant of the scheduling grant table to be larger than or equal to the optimum absolute grant which is indicated by the absolute grant message(304). The maximum absolute grant indicated in the absolute grant message is determined by the absolute grant comparison table.
