    • PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for reducing a routing tag in an ATM switching system are provided to reduce the path selection tag bits of a cell, while maintaining the whole switching capacity uniformly, by making the information of each self routing tag, inputted to each self routing switch formed of a dual structure to process bisectional cell information, copied respectively to the other side's self routing switch. CONSTITUTION: A cell(A2) is divide into two. Self routing tags(RTag1-RTag4) are cut into halves for each of the divided regions(a2,b2). Generally the structure of a bisectional type self routing switches in an ATM switching system is composed of a portion to process the 'a2' region information of the divided cell(A2) and a portion to process the 'b2' region information of the divided cell(A2). In addition, tag copy blocks(31a,31b) respectively are provided for self routing switches(30a,30b) provided for the portions processing the information of the a2 and b2 regions. The tag copy blocks(31a,31b) carry out a function to copy self routing tag information inputted to themselves to the other side.

    • PURPOSE: A method for distributing cells in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) exchange is provided to increase processor boards of the same sub-system as a '0 times 02' unit to reassign as new VPIs(Virtual Path Identifiers), and to assign VCIs(Virtual Channel Identifiers) by considering processor boards of 32 numbers. CONSTITUTION: An ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) exchange assigns VPIs/VCIs(Virtual Path Identifiers/Virtual Channel Identifiers) suitable for a cell distribution operation in order to perform an IPC(Inter-Processor Communication) when several processors are adopted in one sub-system(S1). The ATM exchange records input modules on the VPIs in order to distribute cells applied through each subscriber link board to upper processor boards, and applies the input modules to cell distribution boards(S2). The cell distribution boards analyze the VPIs(S3), and connect paths to processors assigned each input module(S4). A SPCA(S-Bus Processor Communication Board Assembly) analyzes whether applied cells are IPC cells or signaling cells through VCI values(S5).

    • PURPOSE: A method for administering the memory is provided to use the memory more effectively by varying the size of memory supported by the system according to the number of connections supported by an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cell treating unit. CONSTITUTION: A port table is accessed(S1) by a port ID for wasting cells referring to the port table(S3) in case of the invalid state of the port table. If the port table is valid, a VP table is addressed(S5) by using a VP table address in case of a VP value stored in the header of the cell within a VP starting value and the VP starting value plus VP table size. In other case, the cell is wasted(S6) for increasing the count of an invalid cell. If the VP table is invalid after the VP table is addressed, the cells referring to the VP table are wasted(S8). But, if the VP table is valid and the connection type is VP connection, the cell is treated(S10). Also, if the VC value is within the VC starting point and the VC starting point plus VC table size, the VC table is addressed(S12). In other case, the cell is wasted(S13) for increasing the count of invalid cell. After the VC table is addressed, the cells referring to the VC table are wasted(S15) in case of the invalid state of the VC table. Also, if the VC table is valid, the cell is treated(S16) by using various control field defined in the VC table.

    • PURPOSE: A method for restoring a Virtual Path Connection(VPC) is provided to restore the connection in a short time in case of the generation of a defect in the VPC for supplying reliable VPC service to subscribers. CONSTITUTION: A generation of defect in a phase link(110) is reported to a link connection(111) for being reported to a partial network connection(112) of a network management layer. Then, the generation of defect is reported to a main virtual path trail(113) for sending the deleting demand of partial network connections(114,115) of access management layer including the termination of sending/receiving link for a VPC to each partial network connection. Then, the main connections in an access switchboard are deleted by demanding the disconnection of the partial connections of access to ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switches(116,117). Then, the disconnections are reported to the main virtual path trail for sending a switch over demand to a preliminary virtual path trail(118). The switch over demand is transferred to partial network connections(119,120) of access managing layer for connecting the partial network connections of access management layer to the ATM switches. Therefore, data are transferred and received through a preliminary VPC. Herein, the process is limited to the report of defect and to the control of the ATM switch for reducing the process time.

    • A method for diagnosing self paths in a mobile communication system is provided to realize a self ATM path diagnostic function by applying RFC(Request For Comments) standards to be appropriate for IPC(Inter Processor Communication) executed under an ATM network PVC environment, thereby avoiding a PVC disconnection or an abnormal system state. A source board converts a link or a network path into a loop mode(S1), and periodically transmits inverse ATM ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) request packets to all PVC paths(S2). The ATM ARP request packets are re-received inside the source board(S3). The source board updates all ATM ARP tables with a source IP address(S4). All the ATM ARP tables are maintained in inverse ATM ARP analysis state(S5). The source board checks an IPC state(S6). After terminating a self path diagnostic test, the source board releases the loop mode(S7), and normally transmits the request packets to a destination board(S8). When an inverse ATM ARP response packet is received from the destination board(S11), the source board updates the ATM ARP tables with a normal source IP address(S12). The ATM ARP tables are returned to a previous state that a self path diagnostic function is not performed(S13).

    • PURPOSE: A method for testing processor paths using IPC(Inter Processor Communication) in a superhigh-speed ATM exchange is provided to simply confirm the existence of an IPC fault by an operator's command input only. CONSTITUTION: If an operator inputs TEST-SWPT-PATH through MMC(Man Machine Communication) at the workstation(S10), the ATM exchange searches a processor state library to judge whether a processing block resource for the test object is created(S20). If there is no processing block resource, the ATM exchange displays an error message to the operator(S40). However, in case that the processing block resource exists, the ATM exchange requests a result for the existence of an IPC fault for the inputted target path according to path test procedures(S30) and judges whether the result value indicates response completion for a result for the existence of an IPC fault(S31). If it is judged that the response has completed, the ATM exchange outputs a normal signal to the operator(S32). If there is no response for a result for the existence of an IPC fault, the ATM exchange outputs a fault message to the operator(S33).
