    • Disclosed is a rack including a rack management controller and a plurality of server nodes. The rack management controller receives a firmware updating file, and generates an updating message according to the firmware updating file. Each of the server nodes includes a memory and a baseboard management controller. The memory stores firmware of a basic input/output system. The baseboard management controller is coupled to the rack management controller and the memory. The baseboard management controller receives the updating message to download the firmware updating file from the rack management controller and to store the file in a storage space. The baseboard management controller controls the memory to enter a recovery mode after downloading the firmware updating file, and writes the firmware updating file into the memory to update the firmware of the basic input/output system.

    • A method and an apparatus for updating firmware of a portable terminal are provided to receive files for restoring firmware from another portable terminal of the same kind by local area wireless communication when firmware update is failed, thereby restoring the firmware. When error occurs during a firmware update process, a firmware recovery engine of the first portable terminal is activated(S303). The first portable terminal searches the second portable terminal of the same kind having firmware of the same version(S305). The first portable terminal requests a firmware recovery file to the second portable terminal. The second portable terminal transmits the firmware recovery file to the first portable terminal(S309). The first portable terminal uses the firmware recovery file to restore the firmware(S311).

    • Systems and methods are provided for pre-processing and post-processing original and new versions of files as part of difference file generation between the original and new file versions, for example byte-level file differencing. Software/executable changes between file versions include primary changes/logical changes, which are defined to be the source code changes, and secondary changes. The secondary changes generally result from the primary changes and are generated by the software compiler/linker utilities. The secondary changes include address changes, pointer target address changes, and changes in address offsets. The pre processing and/or post-processing systems and methods provided use approximation rules between file versions to remove/reduce the secondary changes and encode information relating to the removal of these changes in information of the corresponding difference file.
