    • PURPOSE: An end of a radio frequency tuner and the tuner are provided to improve performance, and to reduce noise by buffering noise from a mixer of a first frequency modifier. CONSTITUTION: An input end is connected to a signal path. An input path has a sufficiently wide bandwidth for passing all channels in an input signal and has the substantially constant voltage standing wave ratio over the bandwidth. The splitter supplies individual signals to a plurality of filtering paths and the respective filtering paths are provided with fixed filters. Plural paths are selected at the prescribed time, and the filters divide the input frequency band into a plurality of adjacent or a little overlapped sub-bands. The output of the relevant end is supplied to a double conversion device equipped with upward converters, downward converters and first and second IF filters.

    • PURPOSE: A highly integrated monolithic television tuner is provided to reduce the area of a circuit board and cut down manufacturing costs. CONSTITUTION: In a highly integrated television tuner, the input signals are supplied to an RF attenuator(102) forming part of an automatic gain control loop. A tracking low noise amplifier(103) supplies the signals to a tracking filter(104). The filtered signals are supplied to a first frequency changer(105,108,110), which performs up-conversion to a high first intermediate frequency. The resulting signal is filtered before being supplied to a second frequency changer(111-120) performing down-conversion to a conventional second intermediate frequency. The resulting signals are supplied to an automatic gain control detector(122) and to second intermediate frequency filters(124,125). The detector detects the signal level upstream of the single channel filtering. Both frequency changers comprise image reject mixers(116) which receive local oscillator signals from tunable local oscillators controlled by hybrid mash fractional N phase locked loop synthesizers.

An input data bus terminal(27) is connected to a data bus interface(28) used in common for the tuners, and a buffer(11) having a low-noise amplifier is installed between the common input terminal and the tuners. A filtering unit divides the output signal of the buffer into plural frequency bands.

    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for distributing timing data through a packet network are provided to distribute timing information across the packet network such as an Ethernet, an ATM network or an IP network. CONSTITUTION: Timing signals are generated from a master clock(8) at predictable intervals by using a clock reference of a given frequency. The timing signals are broadcast or multicast to a plurality of slave clocks(9) over a packet network(7) while maintaining timing signal intervals. At each slave clock(9), the intervals between successively received timing signals are determined. A clock recovery algorithm is applied to the determined intervals to recover an original clock frequency in substantially real time. A local clock frequency of the slave clock is synchronized to the recovered frequency.
