    • The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for changing a driving mode of a vehicle. According to the present invention, the apparatus includes an input part receiving road information from a navigation or smart phone in which a GPS receiver module is embedded, a data transforming part transforming the road information into driving mode information, a controller outputting a mode changing signal to change the driving mode of a vehicle to a two-wheel or four-wheel driving mode if driving mode change is needed according to the transformed driving mode information, and an actuator driving part changing the driving mode according to the mode change signal outputted from the controller, whereby the driving mode is changed using the road information provided by terminal equipment like the navigation or the smart phone. Further, if GPS reception is not carried out for a given period of time, it is determined that the vehicle should be in the four-wheel driving mode, thus forcedly changing the two-wheel driving mode to the four-wheel driving mode. According to the present invention, power distribution is appropriately conducted only in a needed situation, thus improving the driving safety and the fuel efficiency of the vehicle, predicting the driving situation of the vehicle to accurately distribute the driving force, and avoiding the use of sensors to expect the cost reduction.
