    • PURPOSE: An NOx(Nitrogen Oxide) reduction combustion method of concentrated coal streams is provided to reduce NOx formation in the combustion of solid hydrocarbonaceous fuel as coal by obtaining the streams having a ratio of fuel solids to air that is higher than the feed stream from the incoming feed stream of the fuel solids and air and injecting the obtained stream and a small amount of oxygen to a burner where the fuel solids are burned. CONSTITUTION: An NOx reduction combustion method comprises steps for supplying a feed stream of pulverulent solid hydrocarbonaceous fuel in a gaseous carrier; obtaining from the feed stream at least one obtained stream comprising the fuel and a carrier to have a ratio of fuel to a carrier that is higher than the ratio of fuel to the carrier of the feed stream; feeding the obtained stream and air from a burner(3) to a combustion chamber(1); injecting oxygen into the obtained stream at or near the burner; and burning the coal in the obtained stream in the combustion chamber with the air and oxygen in a flame(6) that has a fuel-rich flame zone. The amount of the oxygen is less than 25% of the stoichiometric amount required for complete combustion of the fuel and keeps the zone fuel-rich. The combustion method reduces the amount of air fed through the burner by an amount containing sufficient oxygen that the overall combustion zone stoichiometric ratio varies by not more than 10% compared to the stoichiometric ratio without adding oxygen.
