    • PURPOSE: A method for increasing char from coal applied in the production of molten steel by means of melting and reduction process is provided for preventing the generation of volatile components from the coal by applying MgO as an additive. CONSTITUTION: The method for increasing car from coal accompanied with the production of molten steel by means of melting and reduction process so called COREX comprises applying MgO suspension into coal then drying it to regularly distribute MgO over entire surface of the coal in order to prevent the generation of volatile components from the coal, thereby to reduce amount of coke required in the production of molten steel. If the generation of volatile matters from coal at introducing the coal into hot melting furnace in COREX process is controlled, it can increase char and reduce amount of cokes required.

    • PURPOSE: Provided are coal briquette with excellent impact hardness and eruption characteristic at high temperature for use in FINEX and COREX processes, and a method for fabricating the same by using byproducts, dust coal, of iron works. CONSTITUTION: The briquette is comprised of 50 wt% of sludge and dust containing at least one material out of Fe, Co, Ca compound and Mg compound, 5-20 wt% of binder and the remainder of dust coal. The method comprises the steps of (a) mixing 50 wt% of sludge and dust containing at least one substance selected from a group being consisted of Fe, Co, Ca compound and Mg compound, (b) mixing 5 g of hardener, caustic lime, with the mixture of the step (a) with respect to 100 g of the mixture, (c) aging the mixture of the step (b), (d) mixing 5-20 g of molasses with the aged mixture of the step (c) with respect to 100 g of the aged mixture, and (e) molding using the mixture of the step (d) to form a predetermined feature.

    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for manufacturing molten iron are provided to increase productivity by minimizing reduction loss of fine iron ore due to firing of subsidiary raw material and additionally charging fine iron ore as much as reduced amount of subsidiary raw material. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing molten iron using non-coking coal and fine iron ore is characterized in that 40 to 60 wt.% of the total subsidiary raw material that is charged into a reduction furnace is supplied through a reduced iron discharge pipe, a particle diameter of the subsidiary raw material supplied through the reduction furnace is 8 mm or less while a particle diameter of the subsidiary raw material supplied through the reduced iron discharge pipe is 2 mm or less, and a location from which subsidiary raw material is supplied in the reduced iron discharge pipe is determined so that it takes 15 seconds or more to get to a melter gasifier(1) from a point of subsidiary raw material charging time. The apparatus for manufacturing molten iron comprises one or more reduction furnaces; a melter gasifier(1) connected to a final reduction furnace through a reduced iron discharge pipe in such a way that ore is circulated; and a subsidiary raw material separation charging device comprising a subsidiary raw material charging pipe(15) supplying subsidiary raw materials to the reduced iron discharge pipe.
