    • A metal nitrided using a non-cyan based salt bath is provided, a metal of which an inner part as well as a surface are nitrided is provided, and a nitrided metal having improved tensile strength and hardness compared to a metal on which salt bath nitriding is not performed is provided. A method for salt bath nitriding of metal comprises the steps of: injecting a non-cyan based salt into a salt bath; melting the salt to maintain the salt at a predetermined temperature; and nitriding the metal in the salt bath. The non-cyan based salt includes at least one of NaNO3, NaNO2, KNO3, KNO2, and Ca(NO3)2. The metal nitriding step is performed at a molten salt bath temperature of 400 to 700 deg.C for a dipping time of 1 minute to 24 hours. A nitrided pure iron is characterized in that pure iron nitrided in at least one salt bath of KNO3, KNO2, Ca(NO3)2, NaNO3 and NaNO2 has a nitriding thickness of 0.1 to 3.0 mm.

A metal nitride is nitrided in a salt bath having at least one of KNO3, KNO2, Ca(NO3)2, NaN03, and NaNo2 in which a base is a non-cyanogen molten salt. The base is carbon steel or IF steel. The metal nitride has a nitride layer which is formed by nitride diffusion. A compound layer having iron and nitrogen is not contacted in the surface of the metal nitride.
