    • PURPOSE: An air conditioner capable of simultaneous defrosting and heating operations, and outdoor units with a self-defrosting cycle are provided to perform heating operation when some of outdoor units are on defrosting operation and reduce noises due to inflow of a refrigerant to indoor units in defrosting operation. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner consists of plural indoor units(11), compressors(23), an outdoor heat exchanger(33), a four-way valve(31) arranged at discharge sides of the compressors for switching a passage of the refrigerant and an accumulator(35) providing gaseous refrigerant to suction sides of the compressors. In defrosting operation, a bypass passage(51) is connected to have one end communicated with an outlet of the outdoor heat exchanger, and the other end communicated with a suction side of the accumulator. An outdoor expansion device(53) is arranged in the bypass passage. A heat exchanging unit(55) is formed on the lower outdoor expansion device in association with a flow direction of the refrigerant to exchange heat with the refrigerant of high temperature discharged from the compressors. A first main refrigerant pipe connects outlet sides of outdoor units in association with a flow direction of the refrigerant. A second main refrigerant pipe is installed to flow the refrigerant to be moved into each outdoor unit via the indoor units.

    • PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling an electronic expansion valve of a multi-heat pump are provided to control opening of an electronic expansion valve by reference opening, thereby improving cooling and heating capabilities of each indoor unit with stabilizing a cycle. CONSTITUTION: An operation capacity calculating unit(100) calculates operation capacity of each indoor unit. A reference opening operation unit(110) calculates reference opening of an electronic expansion valve(130) according to the calculated operation capacity. A microcomputer(120) outputs an opening control signal and outputs a reference opening control signal according to the calculated reference opening in the case of starting operation. The electronic expansion valve discharges a refrigerant by controlling the opening by the opening control signal or the reference opening control signal.
