    • The present invention provides a composite light guide plate having a thickness greater than about 1mm, to be used in an LCD backlight or general illumination device. In a processing method according to the present invention, an extruding roll forming process is combined with coating and laminating steps so as to enable cost-effective roll-to-roll or roll-to-sheet manufacture of a thick composite light plate guide. One or both main surfaces of the light guide plate include patterns to allow the light guide plate to extract and realign light beams from one or more light sources disposed at one or more edges of the light guide plate. The composite light guide plate comprises a pre-cut sheet and patterned film connected by an adhesive layer. In order to achieve good light extracting efficiency, two constituting layers and the adhesive layer of the light guide plate should be optically matching so that among the three materials of the composite light guide plate, any two have a difference in refractive index that is smaller than 0.01.

    • PURPOSE: A method of manufacturing a nano-layered light guide plate is provided to form the nano-layered light guide plate comprising a plurality of at least two alternating material layers, thereby facilitating the efficient extraction, distribution, and realignment of light. CONSTITUTION: A display device (100) uses a light guide plate (10) as part of a backlight assembly (32). Light from a light source assembly (20) is coupled to the light guide plate through an incident surface (12). A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel (30) controls light irradiated from the light emitting surface (14) of the light guide plate in the backlight assembly. One or more additional films shown as films (22,24) are provided as part of the backlight assembly for improving other characteristics of light emitted from the light guide plate or provides polarization to the light passing through the LCD panel. A light reflector is disposed under the light guide plate adjacent to a generally structured surface (16) to improve the extraction efficiency of light from a light source.
