    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus are provided to solve problems associated with sleeving tube repairs and others by minimizing the step between the inside diameter of a soft metal heat exchanger tube and a sleeve used to repair a failing section of the tube where the known devices used for sleeve end roll expansion cannot reach. CONSTITUTION: The tube repair apparatus for expanding the ends of a previously installed sleeve into a portion of heat exchanger tubing inaccessibly located in the heat exchanger comprises a series of tube sections connected together to form a length sufficient to extend down to the inaccessibly located defective tubing section; a series of pull rods(26,26') connected together and located within the series of tube sections; an expandable bladder positioned between an end of the tube sections and a moveable threaded stop, which is attached to one end of the series of pull rods; and means for pulling the series of pull rods to compress the expandable bladder, causing it to increase in diameter, wherein the pulling means includes a hydraulic cylinders(12) having on one end the series of tube sections rigidly connected thereto and, on the opposite end of the series of pull rods extending into the hydraulic cylinder to move therethrough in response to hydraulic pressure applied to the hydraulic cylinder to thus compress the bladder, the tube repair apparatus includes a repair sleeve of predetermined length located in the defective portion of the heat exchanger tubing and a hard stopper located on the series of tube sections to be aligned with an end of the sleeve to prevent further insertion of the bladder into the sleeve, the hard stopper(36) is adjustable and is set to align the end of the bladder connected to the pull rods with an end of the sleeve opposite the end aligned with the hard stopper, and the bladder is plastic and expands in diameter in response to compression by the pull rods as per Poisson's ratio.
