    • PURPOSE: A flexible coupler device is provided for coupling continuous exhaust system components with each other in the exhaust system of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: An inner liner tube(12) is concentrically received by an outer liner tube(18). A substantially porous, non-sealing, vibration-absorbing spacer member(28) is arranged between the mutually overlapping liner tubes(12, 18) to prevent direct contact. The space member(28) is non-sealing to preclude deterioration while minimizing interference with the reciprocation and articulation of the liner tubes. In order to prevent leakage of exhaust gas, a flexible and elastic seal member mechanically and sealingly interconnects the liner tubes at their spaced apart, non-overlapping ends. The liner tubes(12, 18) and the spacer member(28) have a non-circular cross-sectional configuration to protect the bellows so that torsional forces do not propagate from one of exhaust system components to the other of the exhaust system components.
