    • An apparatus and a method for encoding and decoding multi videos are provided to encode the multi videos at an encoding rate higher than an existing multi video encoder, thereby reducing transmission time and transmission bandwidth for transmission of image data. A motion estimator(310) estimates a motion vector for an encoded MB(Macro Block) belonging to an encoded image frame of first image. A motion compensator(320) generates a prediction signal by detecting a reference MB corresponding to a current MB belonging to a current image frame from a reference image frame adjacent to the current image frame based on the estimated motion vector. A difference value calculator(330) calculates a difference value between the current MB and the prediction signal. An image frame selector(340) determines a reference image frame, as an image frame located at the same time axis as the encoded image frame among the encoded image frame and the second frame, as the current image frame and selectively provides the determined frame to the motion compensator. A redundancy removing signal generator(350) generates a redundancy removing signal by calculating difference between a first difference value calculated in correspondence with the encoded image frame and a second difference value calculated in correspondence with the reference image frame.

    • A fast video encoding apparatus and a method thereof are provided to omit a process of calculating an unnecessary motion vector by determining a compression mode before a motion vector is calculated to reduce the quantity of calculations and time required for calculations. A fast video encoding apparatus includes a sum calculator(300), a controller(310), a motion vector calculator(320), and an output unit(330). The sum calculator calculates a first sum value corresponding to the sum of pixel values of a predetermined to-be-compressed object unit region of object video information to be compressed and a second sum value corresponding to the sum of pixel values of a predetermined compression reference unit region of reference video information. The controller outputs a motion vector calculation signal when the difference between the first sum value and the second sum value is greater than a predetermined threshold value. The motion vector calculator calculates a motion vector with respect to the to-be-compressed object unit region when receiving the motion vector calculation signal from the controller. The output unit outputs the motion vector received from the motion vector calculator.
