    • The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus and an image processing method which can effectively display an image using an optimized dynamic range compression technique. The image processing method comprises the steps of: obtaining a first blurred image and a second blurred image from an input image; estimating illuminance of the input image by combining the first blurred image with the second blurred image according to characteristics of the input image; amplifying a dark region of the input image; conserving a bright region of the input image; and blending a dark region amplified image with a bright region conserved image, to which different weights are applied, respectively, according to the estimated illuminance. According to the present invention, halo effects can be minimized and contrast of an image can be improved by using the optimized dynamic range compression technique.
