    • PURPOSE: A BIOS ROM, a computer system having the BIOS ROM, and a method for storing the BIOS ROM are provided to store important information with safety by protecting the information against a virus, a mistake of a user, or a physical damage. CONSTITUTION: If a power source is applied to a system(S10), a BIOS unit executes a POST(Power On Self Test)(S20) and boots the system by operating an operating system stored in a hard disk drive of the system(S30). In the case that predetermined information is stored or read by accessing a storage of a BIOS ROM, a user generates an interrupt for calling a control unit provided in the BIOS ROM. The control unit is operated and requests that the user inputs a system password(S40). If the user inputs a predetermined password, the control unit checks whether the inputted password identified with a system password stored in the storage(S50). If two passwords are identified therewith, the control unit calls a memory address of the storage out of memories of the BIOS ROM and enable the user to access(read, write) to the storage. Thus, the user stores predetermined application information in the storage or reads information stored in the storage(S60).

    • PURPOSE: A computer and a method for controlling the same are provided to enhance an advertising effects and enable a user to buy a computer at low cost as a compensation of watching an advertisement by displaying an advertisement while a computer is operated. CONSTITUTION: If a power source is supplied to a computer system, ROM bios in a flash memory checks hardware by executing a post routine(S10,S20). The post routine initializes a shared area(S30), and initializes an SMI(System Management Interrupt) generator in a main board for generating an SMI interrupt signal periodically and boots a system of a computer(S40). The SMI generator periodically generates an SMI interrupt signal in accordance with a computer booting process. An SMM(System Management Mode) program is periodically operated whenever an SMI interrupt signal is generated(S60). The SMM program judges whether the current advertisement displaying program is operated or not by inspecting a shared area checked by the advertisement displaying program(S70). If a numeral written in the shared area is '1', the SMM program judges as the advertisement displaying program is operated abnormally. Thus, the advertisement displaying program terminates a function of the computer by performing a code for terminating the computer system(S80).

CONSTITUTION: A BIOS(Basic Input/Output System)(4) includes a storage(41) storing an SMI(System Management Interrupt) service routine and a system use limit time, and an SMI signal generator(43) periodically generating an SMI signal through a signal from a CPU.
