    • An optical preform manufacturing method and a device thereof are provided to prevent problems generated due to low-quality quartz by using an internal vapor deposition process, and to restrict bubbles or other inappropriate influence from being generated during a contraction process in changing a hollow base material pipe into a solid preform. A device for manufacturing an optical preform by an internal vapor deposition process comprises an energy source and a base material pipe(2). The base material pipe is composed of a supply part for feeding a glass forming precursor and a discharge part for discharging components that are not deposited on the inside of the base material pipe. The energy source moves along the length of the base material pipe between reversal points(6) of the discharge and supply parts. An insertion pipe(4) is installed in the base material pipe at the side of the discharge part and extended over the base material pipe. An outer diameter and shape of the insertion pipe correspond to an inner diameter and shape of the base material pipe.
