    • PURPOSE: To provide a fuel pump control device which can reduce the continuous operation sound generated at every closing time of a spill valve. CONSTITUTION: At idle operation time, the number of fuel injection per one time fuel press-feeding from a high pressure fuel pump 47 is reduced or increased. In its reduction case, the closing start timing of an electro-magnetic spill valve 54 can be delayed as one time fuel press-feeding amount may be less. Thereby, the lift amount (cam speed) of a plunger 48b at the 1deg. rotation time of the cam 22a at the valve closing time is minified and the energizing force acting to the same valve closing direction by the fuel is minified.     • PURPOSE: To provide a fuel feeder for an internal combustion engine capable of appropriately adjusting a fuel forced feed quantity in accordance with modifications of valve closing initiation timing of a spill valve and improving controllability of this fuel forced feed quantity. CONSTITUTION: In a high pressure fuel pump 47 of this fuel feeder, a moving amount (cam velocity) of a plunger 48 during a unit angle rotation of a cam 22a changes in accordance with phase of the cam 22a. A fuel forced feed quantity of the high pressure fuel pump 47 is controlled by modifying valve closing initiation timing of a solenoid spill valve 54, but it is significantly affected by the cam velocity of this valve closing initiation timing.
