    • It is an object to provide a liquid crystal panel that is an IPS system e-mode color liquid crystal panel and has a multiple-gap structure with an obliquely directional contrast improved. A first polarizer (1) is arranged on a side of a color filter (6) of a liquid crystal cell (10) while a second polarizer (8) is arranged on a side of a liquid crystal layer (5) of the liquid crystal cell (10). A retardation film (2) is set between the first polarizer (1) and the liquid crystal cell (10). The color filter (6) is stacked on a glass substrate (3) on the viewing side of the liquid crystal cell (10), and, further, a glass substrate (7) is arranged to accept and hold the liquid crystal layer (5). Here, with respect to the thickness of the liquid crystal layer (5), the thickness (dB) of a region in contact with a blue color filter (6B) is smallest, and the thickness (dG) of a region in contact with a green color filter (6G) and the thickness (dR) of a region in contact with a red color filter (6R) are bigger in this order. That is, a multiple-gap structure is formed so that the thickness of the liquid crystal layer (5) varies according to each of colors of the color filter (6).

    • Provided are a liquid crystal panel capable of constituting a liquid crystal display device in which the contrast and the display color are hardly changed by the view angle and azimuth and a liquid crystal display device using the same. The liquid crystal panel includes a liquid crystal cell, a first polarizer arranged at one side of the liquid crystal cell, a second polarizer arranged at the other side of the liquid crystal cell, a first optical element arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the first polarizer, a second optical element arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the first optical element, and a third optical element arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the second polarizer. The absorption axis of the first polarizer orthogonally intersects the absorption axis of the second polarizer. The first optical element satisfies the relationship nz > nx = ny. The second optical element satisfies the relationship nx > ny = nz. Its delay axis is parallel to the absorption axis of the first polarizer. The third optical element has optically isotropic characteristic.

    • A laminate, an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) panel and an LCD are provided to produce a laminate including a birefringence layer having a reduced thickness variation to decrease display roughness of images in black display when the images are seen at a tilted angle. A laminate(10) includes a base material(11) and a birefringence layer(12) formed on the base material. The birefringence layer contains acrylate polymer. The acrylate polymer includes butyl acrylate and ethyl acrylate. The weight average molecular weight of the acrylate polymer is in the range of 5000 to 30000. The water contact angle of the side of the birefringence layer opposite to the base material is in the range of 20 to 55 degrees.
