    • The fuse comprises a rectangular elongated insulating body having a fuse element diagonally disposed in a fuse cavity, and insert moulded terminals extending from opposite ends. The cavity opens onto opposite logitudinal sides of the body which is sealed by a semi- rigid expandable sleeve. A pair of narrow grooves extend from the opposite ends of the cavity to conductive fuse attachment surfaces and opening onto opposite sides of the body. The fuse element is disposed in the grooves and conductively secured between the exposed surfaces of the terminals and passing over or within an open side of the cavity. The walls of the groove form arc barriers to prevent expansion of an arc onto the attachment surfaces when the fuse element blows.

    • The bayonet lock for retaining the knob of a fuseholder to an axial- insertion fuseholder body is formed by camming surfaces disposed in the walls of grooves formed in the walls of the insertion passage and on the surfaces of a knob extension which enters the passage. The engaging surfaces of the lock are of insulating material. Axial insertion and rotation of the knob retains an inserted fuse. Camming surfaces are provided so that upon rotation of the fuseholder knob in an unlocking direction, these camming surfaces cause an automatic outward ejection of the fuseholder knob. Additional camming surfaces are proivded to assist in insertion so that when operator pressure is released from the knob, the knob compression spring forces the knob axially outward into engagment therewith, the surfaces being configured to provide a force urging the knob in the locking direction.

    • The fuse has an enlarged transparent extraction flange configured as a thin-wall structure having a cavity running along its entire length. The fuse terminal blades are captively secured in a housing to extend from the latter's bottom and have narrow extensions at the outer edges of the blades which extend upwardly into the flange cavity. A fuse link extends between the blade extensions whthin the cavity and at a stand-off distance from the interior walls of the cavity. The fuse housing is preferably of identical half-shell construction having lengthwise-running centring ribs and associated mating recesses to facilitate assembly.
