    • PURPOSE: A method for managing a high-capacity data storage system is provided to offer a plurality of data chunks with an erasure code when the chunks are allocated to a plurality of data sets. CONSTITUTION: A set of data is allocated into a plurality of data chunks, wherein the plurality of data chunks is thinly provisioned and erasure coded(110). A plurality of storage devices is divided into a first and a second set of storage devices, wherein the first set of storage devices(140) is powered up and the second set of storage devices is powered down. The data chunks are distributed on the first set of storage devices to equally load each of the first set of storage devices. A storage device from the second set of storage devices is powered up to reassign the storage device from the second set of storage devices to the first set of storage devices. Data chunks are migrated to a reassigned storage device(150) until the data chunks are evenly distributed on the first set of storage devices and the reassigned storage device.

    • A peripheral device, a method of recognizing a peripheral device and a recording medium storing a peripheral device recognition program are provided to virtually connect even a peripheral device which is not actually connected to a computer system and allow the computer system to recognize the peripheral device. A virtual peripheral device corresponding to an actual peripheral device includes an attribute information storage unit and a connection response unit. The attribute information storage unit stores attribute information of peripheral devices connectable to a computer system. The connection response unit responds to a peripheral device connection confirmation request of the computer system as a peripheral device actually connected to the computer system according to the attribute information stored in the attribute information storage unit.
