    • PURPOSE: A method for lowering molecular weight of alginates and fucoidan is provided to ensure fast reaction speed using electronic beams and to simply lower the molecular weight of alginates and fucoidan in high yield. CONSTITUTION: A method for lowering molecular weight of alginates and fucoidan comprises a step of irradiating electron beams to a polymer alginate solution. 0.5~2.0 weight% of alginate is included in the polymer alginate solution. The electronic beam is irradiated in a dose of 0.1~20 kGy in the energy of 1~3 MeV. The method for lowering molecular weight of alginates and fucoidan allows oxygen to be pumped or uses hydrogen peroxide of 0.5~4.5% concentration as a catalyst for lowering molecular weight.
