    • A cured beta-cyclodextrin polymer powder, its preparation method, and a filler for a solid phase extraction containing the cured beta-cyclodextrin polymer powder are provided to extract a steroid hormone present in a living body sample simply and effectively by using the cured beta-cyclodextrin polymer powder. A cured beta-cyclodextrin polymer powder comprises a beta-cyclodextrin polymer prepared by the reaction of a beta-cyclodextrin monomer and epichlorohydrin; and a metal ion which is coated on the surface of the beta-cyclodextrin polymer. Preferably the metal ion is selected from Ca and Na. The cured beta-cyclodextrin polymer powder is prepared by dissolving beta-cyclodextrin in an alkaline aqueous solution and adding epichlorohydrin to it to prepare a beta-cyclodextrin polymer of gel state; dipping the polymer in a metal salt aqueous solution to coat the polymer with a metal ion, thereby preparing a cured beta-cyclodextrin polymer; and washing, drying and pulverizing the obtained polymer.

    • PURPOSE: A process for preparing a beta-cyclodextrin possessing high compressibility and stable over time in order to use it as direct compression excipient-binder is provided, and a directly compressible beta-cyclodextrin thus obtained is provided. CONSTITUTION: The process for preparing beta-cyclodextrin which is of high compressibility and which is stable over time comprises a step of dehydrating hydrated beta-cyclodextrin to a water content of less than 6%, preferably less than 4% and more preferably still less than or equal to 2% by weight, followed by forced rehydration to a water content greater than 10%, preferably greater than 12% and more preferably still greater than or equal to 13% by weight, wherein the dehydration is carried out on a fluidized air bed dryer-granulator, the rehydration is carried out on a fluidized air bed granulator, and the rehydration is carried out by spraying water at a temperature of less than 60 deg.C, preferably less than 40 deg.C. Beta-cyclodextrin has a compressibility greater than 70 N expressed in a C test, wherein beta-cyclodextrin has a specific surface area according to the BET method greater than or equal to 1 m/g for a particle size fraction of between 100 and 160 micrometers, a mean particle diameter greater than 80 micrometers and an apparent mass density greater than or equal to 0.45 g/ml, and preferably greater than or equal to 0.50 g/ml, for a particle size fraction of between 100 and 315 micrometers, and beta-cyclodextrin exhibits a stability greater than six months at room temperature.

    • PURPOSE: Provided are cyclodextrin polymer materials and the use of such cyclodextrin polymer materials as separation materials for separation or removal of, e.g., organic contaminants from aqueous compositions. CONSTITUTION: A water insoluble polymeric composition which is a reaction product of a cyclodextrin monomer and a polyfunctional crosslinker from the group of polyisocyanates, dihalohydrocarbons, and dihaloacetylhydrocarbons is disclosed together with a process for removing a target organic compound from an aqueous composition including contacting the aqueous composition containing a target organic compound with a water insoluble cyclodextrin polymer which is the reaction product of a cyclodextrin monomer and a polyfunctional crosslinker from the group of polyisocyanates, dihalohydrocarbons, and dihaloacetylhydrocarbons for time sufficient to form a reaction product between the water insoluble cyclodextrin polymer and the target organic compound whereby the concentration of the target organic compound in the aqueous composition is reduced. Organic chromophores added to the water insoluble cyclodextrin polymers can provide organic nonlinear optical materials.
