    • PURPOSE: An image abstraction method is provided to obtain an abstract video inputted in real time by a non-photorealistic rendering technique. CONSTITUTION: An image abstraction method includes: a step of obtaining an original image; a step of obtaining an edge image from the original image through an edge detecting process; a step of obtaining a quantization image from the original image through a quantization process; and a step of obtaining an abstraction image by integrating the edge image and the quantization image. The image abstraction method further includes a step of changing a color space into a Lab color space after obtaining the original image; and a step of converting the Lab color space into a RGB color space after obtaining the abstract image.

    • PURPOSE: A prediction signal producing method of an enhancement layer using a hybrid prediction technique is provided to acquire a correct enhancement layer prediction signal by combining base layer information and enhancement layer information. CONSTITUTION: An encoder detects an edge from a frame(S810). In case an edge does not exist in a target block of the frame, the encoder produces the prediction signal of a corresponding target block through a spatial correlation(S820,S830). In case the edge exists in the target block, the encoder divides an area based on the edge(S840). The encoder produces a prediction signal through an interlayer correlation for the first area of the divided areas. The encoder produces a prediction signal through the spatial correlation for the second area(S850).     • PURPOSE: An edge detecting method on a screen is provided to improve prediction performance on the screen by detecting an edge segment from a target block and producing an edge map by connecting the detected edge segments. CONSTITUTION: An encoder divides a frame as the unit of a block. The encoder calculates an intensity gradient for each pixel in a target block. Based on the intensity gradient, the encoder produces a binary edge map. The encoder removes noise from the binary edge map. In case multiple edge lines are detected from the binary edge map, the encoder removes the remaining edge segments except an outermost edge segment(S210). The encoder produces an edge map by connecting the detected edge segments(S220).
