Padding identification information for distinguishing whether a close SRR is closed by a padding process or without the padding process is recorded within the SRR entry. Session identification information showing that the corresponding SRR is a start SRR of a session is further comprised within the SRR entry.

    • PURPOSE: A write-once optical disk and a management information recording method of the optical disk are provided to record management information finally recorded within a corresponding TDMA(Temporary Defect Management Area) to a DMA(Defect Management Area) whenever each TDMA is full, thereby easily obtaining final management information. CONSTITUTION: Plural TDMAs are used in specific order. Whenever each TDMA is full, management information finally recorded in a corresponding TDMA is transferred to a DMA to be recorded in the DMA. The transferred management information consists of disk recording state information and TDDS(Temporary Disk Definition Structure) information. The TDMAs can be comprised in 2 to the maximum if one recording layer exists. If two recording layers exist, the TDMAs may be comprised in 5 to the maximum.

    • A rewritable optical medium and a method of managing its defect area is disclosed. The DMA condition or initially assignable spare area size in the present invention is determined based upon the interrelation between the spare area size and the DMA condition. Namely, the PDL entry condition among the DMA condition is determined to allow a minimum spare area for linear replacement in the initially assignable spare area after slipping replacement during formatting to facilitate management of the defect area of a rewritable optical medium. The present invention also discloses a method of controlling the recording/playback of optical media with the same format and different sizes, thereby improving the system performance.
