    • PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling a tilt of a disc player and a method of compensating the apparatus are provided to control the tilt more accurately. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling a tilt of a disc player includes a pick-up and a tilt sensor(100). The pick-up reciprocates between the inner part and outer part of a disc(10) mounted on a spindle motor(105). The tilt sensor has a light-emitting element set at the center thereof and a light-receiving elements located at both sides of the light-emitting element. When a virtual line passing through the center of the light-emitting element and the center of the light-receiving element is a tilt sensor center line(03), a virtual line passing through the center of the disc and the center of a light irradiation part(2) of the pick-up is a light irradiation part center line(01), a virtual line passing through the center of the disc and the center of the light-emitting element is a light-emitting element center line(02), and a virtual line parallel with the light irradiation part center line is a parallel tilt sensor center line(04), the tilt sensor is installed in the apparatus such that the tilt sensor center line is located between the parallel tilt sensor center line and the light-emitting element center line.

    • PURPOSE: A method of recording and reproducing an optical record carrier is provided to detect tilt amount of a disc in a free-running state and to detect tilt direction thereof from a focus error signal, thereby compensating for the tilt. CONSTITUTION: The method of recording and reproducing an optical record carrier(101), wherein a tracking error signal and a focus error signal is detected using an electrical signal of an optical pick-up(102) which irradiates a laser beam onto a specified position on the record carrier and picks up a reflected beam therefrom to perform a tracking servo and a focus servo, comprises the steps of: detecting magnitude and direction of a tilt while rotating the optical record carrier upon mounting it to adjust the tilt, followed by performing a process of storing the adjusted values as a reference value for every specified position on the record carrier; and applying the stored reference value to an appropriate position on the record carrier upon operation thereof, to effecting a tilt compensation.
