    • An apparatus for transmitting data in a digital broadcasting system is disclosed. The apparatus includes: a source encoding unit for encoding data to be transmitted and generating source-coded data; a capacity managing unit for dividing the source-coded data into divided data for a plurality of channels in case that an available data capacity for transmitting the source-coded data does not exist in one channel but sum of available data capacities of the multiple channels can accommodate the source-coded data, and adding header information to the divided data; a channel encoding unit for encoding the divided data according to channel environment and generating channel-coded data; and a transmitting unit for multiplexing, modulating and transmitting the channel-coded data through multiple frequency bands and multiple broadcasting sites.

    • PURPOSE: A digital broadcasting transmitter inserting two pilots into a symbol of a broadcasting signal to transmit the two pilots are provided to prevent deterioration of recovery performance of a receiving side due to damages of a pilot included in a broadcasting signal while the broadcasting signal is being transmitted. CONSTITUTION: A channel coding unit(100) codes a broadcasting signal to be transmitted to correct an error generated on a transmission channel. A symbol mapping unit(200) maps the channel-coded broadcasting signals by symbols. A multiple switching unit(300) inserts synchronous information into the broadcasting signal. A pilot inserting unit(400) repetitively inserts two pilots into both sides of each symbol of the broadcasting signal, wherein the two pilots have different voltages. A modulating unit(500) executes offset-QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) to each symbol of the broadcasting signal. A shaping filter(600) filters the symbols of the broadcasting signal. An RF(Radio Frequency) amplifying unit(700) amplifies the high frequency broadcasting signal.

    • PURPOSE: A carrier restoring system of a digital broadcasting receiver for stably restoring carriers using two pilots is provided to perform stable restoration of carriers even when a pilot is damaged due to a variation in channel environment. CONSTITUTION: A carrier restoring system of a digital broadcasting receiver includes a plurality of frequency offset assumption units(120,140), a combining unit(160), a phase offset assumption unit(170), and a voltage-controlled oscillator(180). Each of the plurality of frequency offset assumption unit shifts a plurality of pilot tones included in I-signal and Q-signal of a digital broadcasting signal to a baseband to assume a frequency offset value of a carrier, generated when the digital broadcasting signal is tuned. The combining unit combines frequency offset values assumed by the plurality of frequency offset assumption units. The phase offset assumption unit assumes a phase offset value of the carrier. The voltage-controlled oscillator compensates for the frequency offset value and the phase offset value to oscillate a voltage with a predetermined level for carrying out tuning.

    • PURPOSE: A 256-quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) branch metric circuit for a trellis coded modulator(TCM) decoder is provided to implement an in-phase(I) branch metric circuit so as to find the first to the fourth branch metrics. CONSTITUTION: An in-phase(I) branch metric circuit comprises as follows. A first adder(210) adds each of I signals of a 256-QAM and each of 256-quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) constellation values. An absolute value circuit(220) makes each of the added first to sixteenth values absolute values. A comparison selector(230) reciprocally compares the first to the sixteenth values, and selects a first and a second minimal value. First/second registers(240,250) store the first and the second minimal value. A second adder(260) reciprocally adds the first/the second minimal values from the comparison selector(230) to the first/the second minimal values from the first/the second registers(240,250). A multiplexer(270) responds to a control signal from an exterior, and selects four signals among seventeenth to twentieth added values and the first/the second minimal values from the second adder(260), then generates first to fourth I branch metrics.
