    • A crack-free Heusler with low oxygen content, and a Heusler-like alloy are provided to melt constituent elements or master alloy materials under vacuum or a partial pressure of an inert gas and to form the Heusler or Heusler-like alloy containing less than about 50 ppm oxygen so as to reduce costs and to contain very low amount such as less than 50 ppm oxygen. A method of forming a Heusler or Heusler-like alloy of formula X 2YZ or XYZ, comprises steps of: (a) providing a crucible made of at least one metal oxide material thermodynamically stable to molten transition metals; (b) supplying predetermined amounts of constituent elements or master alloy materials of the Heusler or Heusler-like alloy to the crucible; and (c) melting the constituent elements or master alloy materials under vacuum or a partial pressure of an inert gas to form the Heusler or Heusler-like alloy containing less than about 50 ppm oxygen. The oxide material is selected from a group of Y2O3, Ca0, ThO2, Mg0, ZrO2, and Al2O3.
