摘要： A spacer for insertion between two vertebrae is provided to enable length adjustment of the spacer, to fill the spacer with bone cement and bone graft through an access opening, and to improve ease of handling. A spacer for insertion between two vertebrae, the spacer having a variable axial length and includes: a first part(2) having a hollow interior and a tubular wall; and a second part(3) having a hollow interior and a tubular wall, in which the second part is slidable within the first part in an axial direction to adjust an overall length. At least the first part or the second part includes: an access opening(6,9) having a size to be adapted for inserting bone graft through the opening into the interior; a length adjustment structure(19,20) engaged with a tool for telescoping the second member relative to the first member; and locking structures(10,11,12) for fixing the axial length. The access opening, the length adjustment structure and the locking structure are arranged so as to be accessible from the same side of the spacer.

A marker is connected to a vertebra of the spinal column at the reference point. The marker is engaged with a guide assembly for guiding insertion of a surgical instrument between the first and second vertebrae to prepare the space between the first and second vertebrae for receiving an apparatus between the first and second vertebrae. The apparatus is inserted between the first and second vertebrae. The apparatus has a first end, a second opposite end, and first and second lateral sides extending between the first and second ends. An outer surface is engageable with the first vertebra of the spinal column. A rail extending from the outer surface is engageable with the first vertebra to connect the apparatus to the first vertebra. The rail extends a first distance from the outer surface adjacent the first end. The rail extends a second distance from the outer surface adjacent the second end. The second distance is greater than the first distance. A first projection extending from the outer surface is engageable with the first vertebra to connect the apparatus to the first vertebra. The first projection extends from the outer surface a first distance. A second projection extending from the outer surface is engageable with the first vertebra to connect the apparatus to the first vertebra. The second projection is located closer to the second end than the first projection. The second projection extends from the outer surface a second distance greater than the first distance. In another aspect of the apparatus, first and second rails extend from the outer surface. The first rail extends generally transverse to the first and second ends. 摘要： An allogenic implant for use in intervertebral fusion is formed from one or more two pieces. The pieces are made from bone, and are joined together to form an implant having sufficient strength and stability to maintain a desired distance between first and second vertebrae in a spinal fusion procedure. The implant pieces may be formed of cortical bone and connected by dovetail joints, and at least one cortical bone pin may be provided to lock the pieces together and to add strength to the implant. Teeth are formed on the vertebra engaging surfaces of the implant prevent short-term slippage of the implant.
