    • Techniques for facilitating cell search by user equipments (UEs) in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a primary synchronization code (PSC) sequence may be generated based on a Frank sequence and a constant amplitude sequence that is repeated multiple times. In another aspect, a set of PSC sequences may be generated based on complementary sequences having good aperiodic correlation properties and efficient implementations. In one design, PSC sequences A+B and B+A may be formed based on Golay complementary sequences A and B, there ''+'' denotes concatenation. In yet another aspect, a set of secondary synchronization code (SSC) sequences may be generated based on a set of base sequences and different modulation symbols of a modulation scheme. Each base sequence may be modulated by each of M possible modulation symbols for the modulation scheme to obtain M different SSC sequences.

    • A method for allocating a sequence and a method for setting a circular shift sequence over a frequency offset are provided to increase a detection error or a false alarm rate due to a frequency offset by allocating a sequence without a circular shift applied thereto to a cell having a frequency offset greater than a certain level. Cell information in which a frequency offset is higher than a certain level is obtained. When a sequence applying a cyclic shift is allocated to the cell having the frequency offset higher than the certain level, a cyclic shift application interval is set in consideration of the position of one or more aliases of a reception sequence generated due to the frequency offset. In setting the cyclic shift application interval, the reception sequence and a channel response position of the aliases are checked, and a cyclic shift application available interval is set such that the reception sequence and the channel response position of the aliases do not overlap by a shift due to one or more of a return delay and a channel delay spread.
