    • High performance adsorbents based on activated carbon are provided, wherein the adsorbents should have a high microporosity, i.e., a high microporous fraction with relation to the total pore volume, also a high micropore volume, and yet at the same time also a good mechanical stability, in particular a high stability to wear and rupture. As a high performance adsorbent based on activated carbon in the form of discrete grains of activated carbon, preferably in the spherical form, the high performance adsorbent is characterized by the following parameters: a Gurvich total pore volume of at least 0.7 cm^3/g, wherein at least 70% of the total pore volume is formed by micropores having pore diameters of not more than 20 Å; a measure of central tendency pore diameter of not more than 30 Å; and a BET surface area of at least 1,500 m^2. As a high performance adsorbent based on activated carbon in the form of discrete grains of activated carbon, preferably in the spherical form, the high performance adsorbent is characterized by the following parameters: a Gurvich total pore volume of at least 0.7 cm^3/g, wherein at least 70% of the total pore volume is formed by micropores having pore diameters of not more than 20 Å; a measure of central tendency pore diameter of not more than 30 Å; a BET surface area of at least 1,500 m^2; a butane adsorption of at least 25%; and an iodine number of at least 1,350 mg/g.

    • A moisture adsorbent is provided to increase the amount of adsorbed moisture per unit weight and increase the moisture adsorption rate and the moisture desorption rate at a temperature of no more than 100°C, by forming the moisture adsorbent of a mesoporous body having a high surface area and a large pore volume. A mixture is prepared by adding silica precursor, a block copolymer, and acid into distilled water and stirring the resultant substances. A silica mesoporous body is produced by performing a hydrothermal reaction on the mixture. The silica mesoporous body is hardened. The silica precursor is selected from 1,2-bistriethoxysilylethane, 1,4-bistriethoxysilylbenzene, and triethoxyvinylsilane. The block copolymer is polyethyloxide-polypropyleneoxide-polyethyleneoxide block copolymer.

    • An adsorbent which adsorbs water in a large amount, and can desorb water easily even at a relatively low temperature, and an adsorbent that is excellent in the adsorption amount and adsorption properties by applying a porous organic-inorganic complex are provided. A water adsorbent using a porous organic-inorganic complex is characterized in that the adsorbent has a surface area of not less than 1000 m^2/g, a pore volume of not less than 1.0 ml/g and a pore size of 0.5 to 2 nm, and is obtained by the reaction between a metal precursor and a ligand. A ratio of the water adsorption amount at 100 deg.C to that at a room temperature of the porous organic-inorganic complex is less than 0.2. The metal precursor is at least one metal selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Re, Fe, Ru, Os, Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, Hg, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Sc, Y, Al, Ga, In, Tl, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, As, Sb and Bi, or compounds thereof. The porous organic-inorganic complex is prepared by a method comprising the steps of: (1) mixing a metal precursor, an organic material functioning as a ligand, and a solvent to prepare a reactant mixed solution; and (2) irradiating 0.3 to 300 GHz of microwave onto the reactant mixed solution, thereby heating the reactant mixed solution to a temperature or 100 deg.C or more. The porous organic-inorganic complex is prepared in the form of a thick film, a thin film, or a membrane.
