    • PURPOSE: A coating composition for the promotion of algae propagation, comprising cement-based binder, and fine aggregate and additive containing Fe is provided to promote growth of seaweeds caused by elution of Fe ions. CONSTITUTION: The coating composition for the promotion of algae propagation comprises: 5-40wt.% of cement-based binder, a mixture of 5-95wt.% of Portland cement, and 5-95wt.% of blast furnace slag containing 38-42wt.% of CaO and 28-35wt.% of SiO2; 60-95wt.% of fine aggregate selected from sand and steelmaking slag containing 18-22wt.% of Fe, and desirably steelmaking slag; and 30wt.%(based on the amounts of aggregate) of water soluble Fe-contained additive such as FeSO4. The surface of solidified materials applied to artificial reefs is porous caused by elution of FeSO4, which results in easy implantation of seaweed seeds.

    • PURPOSE: A method is provided to restrain expansion of slag in an electric furnace by sprinkling water and cooling rapidly the molten slag in an electric furnace. CONSTITUTION: Ca3SiO5 in slag in an electric furnace is stable at high temperatures of 1250-2070°C, but decomposed at temperature less than 1250°C by the equation of Ca3SiO5 becomes Ca2SiO4+CaO. Herein, free carbon monoxide(CaO) is generated. The carbon monoxide causes expansion by hydration of the equation of CaO+H2O becomes Ca(OH)2. The molten converter slag is spread on a slag yard. Water is sprinkled to the converter slag to cool rapidly at high temperatures of the surface of the slag of 800-1000°C. Thereby, reaction is restrained and the amount of generating free CaO is reduced.

    • PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing green compact of iron based dusts having appropriate strength so that the green compact of iron based dusts is recycled in such places as an electric furnace by curing the mixture under proper conditions after mixing the iron based dusts having iron as a principal constituent with a proper binder is provided. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing green compact of iron based dusts comprises the processes of molding the mixture after mixing the iron based dusts having 30 wt.% or more of iron as a principal constituent with 8 to 12 wt.% of 2-10% hydrochloric acid solution on the weight basis of the iron based dusts; and performing curing treatment on the mixture at a temperature of 60 to 100 deg.C and a relative humidity of 70 to 100% for at least 12 hours, wherein the iron contained in the iron based dusts is iron oxide or metal iron, and the curing treatment is performed at temperature of 60 to 100 deg.C and a relative humidity of 70 to 100% for 12 to 24 hours.
