An apparatus for generating a medical image according to an embodiment of the present invention may comprise: a sample image extraction unit for extracting at least one sample image from an original image including color information on an object; a color gamut modeling unit for modeling a color gamut of the at least one sample image into a predetermined shape; a two-dimensional color map generation unit for generating a two-dimensional color map based on the modeled color gamut; a volume data generation unit for generating three-dimensional volume data based on at least one sectional image for a body tissue of the object; and a control unit for generating a three-dimensional color medial image by applying the two-dimensional color map value to a three dimensional black/white medical image acquired by volume-rendering the three-dimensional volume data.
