    • PURPOSE: A front pipe structure for an exhaust system is provided to prevent degradation of volumetric efficiency of engine caused due to the pressure wave generated during exhaust, while reducing vibrations and noises of exhaust system. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust system comprises an exhaust manifold connected to an exhaust port of an engine; and a front pipe(20) for guiding the exhaust gas generated from the rear end of the exhaust manifold to reach a catalyst purifier. The front pipe includes a plurality of dual pipes(22) communicated to the exhaust manifold; a confluent pipe(24) for combining the plural passages formed by the dual pipes into a single passage; a single pipe(26) having an end connected to the confluent pipe and the other end connected to the catalyst purifier; and a cover member(28) having both sides arranged along the outer surfaces of the dual pipes, confluent pipe and the single pipe in an airtight manner such that an air layer is formed between the cover member and the outer surfaces of the pipes.

    • PURPOSE: A muffler is provided to accomplish an effectiveness of a perforated muffler and a semi-active muffler by allowing the section area of an exhaust pipe to be controlled. CONSTITUTION: A muffler(50) comprises a communication unit consisting of an outer pipe(52) having a space portion(60) for an easy flow of an exhaust gas by expanding a side pipe into which the exhaust gas enters, and a variable unit consisting of an inner pipe(54) arranged in the space portion and an expanded portion(58), the inner piper being provided with a first porous pipe(64) having an end thereof blocked and which forms a first porous portion(62), a second porous pipe(68) having an end thereof blocked and which forms a second porous portion(66) and is connected to the outer pipe side, and a resilient member(70) for connecting the first porous pipe and the second porous pipe. The resilient member expands and contracts in accordance with a change in exhaust gas pressure.
